About the National AA Technology Workshop (NAATW)
The National AA Technology Workshop, or NAATW for short, is a yearly gathering of AA members who care about how technology can help carry the message. For the official description and details on upcoming Workshops, visit naatw.org. What follows is a quick overview in our own words.
What the Workshop is about
Each year, members come together to share what’s worked (and what hasn’t), explore new ideas, and meet others who enjoy this kind of service. The goal is simple: take practical ideas home to your group, district, area, or service committee.
Who they are
NAATW is also the group of volunteers who keep the Workshop going from year to year. When it makes sense, they help record and share Workshop sessions, and they help AA members interested in technology find each other.
They’re AA members serving as trusted servants, not officials, and they have no special authority. The volunteers come from all kinds of technology backgrounds and offer what they’ve learned to the Fellowship. NAATW is not affiliated with AA’s General Service Office and runs on a modest budget.
What NAATW does
- Encourages AA members to get involved in technology service
- Supports trusted servants who are trying out or setting up new tools
- Shares real-world experience with tools, platforms, and good practices
- Offers a hand to other AA service committees working on tech projects
- Helps think through how technology use fits with AA’s Traditions
What NAATW doesn’t do
- Build or endorse one piece of software to meet all of AA’s needs
- Act as AA’s central IT department or make decisions for the Fellowship
- Publish a list of “approved” tools or vendors
- Take the place of existing AA service committees
- Tell groups how to run or which tools they have to use
